Most of the 18,000 farmers in Bhavnagar benefited, all will recover



Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana has received information that about 1.82 lakh farmers in the state have wrongly taken assistance of Rs 186 crore despite paying income tax. In February 2019, the central government announced a scheme for farmers called 'Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi'. Under this scheme, farmers with up to two hectares of land will be given Rs. It was decided to pay the aid in 6,003 equal installments through 'Direct Benefit Transfer', which was applicable in Gujarat as in other states of the country and soon after the decision was made, four monthly assistance of Rs 2,000 was started in the account of the beneficiary farmers.

More than 1.82 lakh farmers were benefiting
though some conditions were also imposed in this PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana and those involved in these conditions would not get any assistance. One of the important conditions was that 'taxpayers who had paid income tax in the last assessment year' were not eligible for this assistance.

Even so, a large number of income-tax-paying farmers are seeking government assistance, which erupted a month or two ago. As per the information received, about 1.82 lakh farmers in all the 33 districts of the state were availing the assistance of PM Kisan Samman Nidhi despite paying income tax. These farmers have received a total of Rs 186 crore from the exchequer in the state.

The
scandal erupted when the government started the process of getting refunds by looking at the Kisan Samman Nidhi portal and the income tax payer portal (list of taxpayers). Thus, such farmers from each district took assistance even though they were ineligible, but the district which has the highest number includes more than 18 thousand farmers in Bhavnagar, more than 17 thousand in Amreli, more than 14 thousand in Mehsana and more than 13 thousand in Rajkot. 

It is to be mentioned here that till today there is information that 5 to 6 installments of 2 thousand rupees have been paid in the state. The government has sent SMS to the 'disqualified farmers' who have availed such assistance and has also started the process of 'refunding' the amount paid.

Although guarantees were given
લાભ Beneficiary farmers in the scheme had given some guarantees, admitting that one would be disqualified in the event of being an 'income tax payer in the last assessment year'.
