Ban on fireworks before Diwali

Ban on fireworks before Diwali:In cities where the weather is bad, including Delhi, the sale of fireworks will be banned till November 30

The NGT said the ban on the sale and use of fireworks would also apply to all areas and cities in the country where air quality is poor (file photo).

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has banned the sale and firing of fireworks across the NCR, including Delhi. The ban will take effect tonight at 12 noon and will last until November 30. This decision is made in view of the increasing pollution. The NGT said the order would also apply to all areas and cities in the country where air quality levels had reached poorer or higher in November last year.

Pollution- free fireworks are allowed in cities where air quality is good. According to NGT's order, in cities-areas where air quality is moderate or below, it is allowed to sell pollution-free fireworks, but only on occasions like Diwali, Chhath, Christmas, New Year. Fireworks will be allowed. This will be 2 hours as per the time fixed by the state government. If no time has been fixed by the state, it will be from 8 pm to 10 pm on Diwali and Guruparva and from 6 am to 8 am on Chhath.

Good news for farmers

Understand the decision of NGT in five questions.
NGT has said the same. As per the order, sale and detonation of all types of fireworks will be banned from 12 noon on Monday to 12 noon on November 30.

Are there any concessions in other cities of the country except Delhi-NCR?
No. The ban on fireworks will apply to all areas and cities in the country where the level of air quality reached the category of poor or above in November last year.

Will there be a discount in my city?
If the air quality in your city was moderate or below the level in November 2019, pollution free fireworks can be sold and blown up, but only 2 hours discount on Diwali and Chhath.

What will be the time of 2 hours?
This will be 2 hours as per the time fixed by the state government. There will be a waiver from 8 to 10 pm on Diwali and from 6 to 8 am on Chhath if any time is fixed by the states.

What will happen in cities where the weather is not bad?
Banning fireworks will be optional in cities and areas where air quality is good. The local authority may, if it so desires, set the guidelines accordingly and prohibit them. The NGT has asked all the states and union territories to launch special campaigns to curb pollution from any source, citing fears of escalation of corona cases.
