In the last five years, the highest number of over 20 million foreign tourists came to Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra

About 52 lakh foreign tourists visited Bihar, 80 lakh in Rajasthan, and 79 lakh in West Bengal

The state of Gujarat has failed to attract foreign tourists even though it has many places that can attract tourists. According to figures released by Market Research and Statistics of the Central Tourism Department, 5,95,607 foreign tourists visited Gujarat in 2019. 

In 2019, Gujarat ranks 12th in attracting foreign tourists compared to other states. The highest number of foreign tourists in the country has come to Tamil Nadu. If we look at the statistics of the last five years, 21,86,298 foreign tourists have visited Gujarat. During the same period, more than 2 crore foreign tourists visited Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra.



Gujarat is compared to Rajasthan, Bihar and West Bengal among the developed states. In the field of tourism also, many programs and festivals are organized by the state government. However, domestic and foreign tourists are not attracted to Gujarat's tourist destinations. Rajasthan, Bihar and West Bengal are far ahead of Gujarat in the figures released annually by Tourism Statistics. 


In the last five years, 51,98,085 tourists have come to Bihar and two and a half times more than Gujarat and 79,58,911 to Rajasthan, 78,66,365 to West Bengal and four and a half times more than Gujarat to Rajasthan and West Bengal.

The states with the highest number of foreign tourists in the last 5 years
are Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Kerala, Bihar, Punjab, Goa, Karnataka and Gujarat. Tamil Nadu ranks first, while Gujarat ranks 12th. Rajasthan is fifth, West Bengal is sixth and Bihar is eighth. In the last five years, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi have received more than 1 to 2 crore tourists, while Rajasthan, West Bengal, Kerala and Bihar have received between 50 lakh and 80 lakh foreign tourists, while Punjab, Goa, Karnataka and Gujarat have received more than 20 lakh and Less than 50 lakh foreign tourists have come.




The festival is held in Gujarat to attract tourists.
Every year tourists from home and abroad visit the state of Gujarat and in order to boost tourism, festivals including Ranotsav, Navratri Mahotsav, Kite Festival are organized. Even during the Vibrant Gujarat Summit, the guests coming from abroad are made aware about the tourist destinations of the state, so that the tourist destinations of Gujarat also become famous abroad and foreign tourists are attracted to Gujarat. However, compared to other states, foreign tourists are still not attracted as much as they should be.
